History of the Shinsengumi

The Shinsengumi is a famous samurai group in Japan.

They were made to keep the peace of Kyoto in the last 15 years of the Edo period, from 1853 to 1868. The last years of the Edo period saw big changes in Japanese government and society. The Shinsengumi made strict rules to unify them. They fought in the battle of IKEDAYA when Japan changed. The battle of IKEDAYA is an important battle for the Shinsengumi and Japanese history, because this battle directly influenced the change in Japanese government and society. Finally, they broke up, but they never gave up until the last. The Shinsengumi had pride as samurai until death. Although they were young when they were formed, they fought for Japan. This was more important than their life.
